Hi. I thought i would post this on the board just for reference sake. All 4 episodes of Galaxy 4 in 16mm format were offered for auction on the gumtree website. The prints were located in Aberdeen. The auction was removed within 12 hrs of being listed.

Did you manage to get a screenshot of the auction, or any details about the seller?

No Sorry. I was hoping my history would bring the web page back up again but it didn't. That was I i could recall from the auction this was the link www.gumtree.com/london/93/29988393.htmlIt was first reported on The Missing Episode forum by user kailelucas but the thread has since been deleted. I thought I would mention it on this site so that there is a record of the situation (hoax) somewhere on the web.

No worries. I've dropped a line to the Restoration Team for them to look into it if they can.

the auction can be seen on this link. It is a snapshot of the original auction which has now been deleted 209.85.173.132/search?q=cache:v7BnCeHwdeYJ:www.gumtree.com/london/51/30208651.html+doctor+who+16mm&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=auyou might have to cut and paste the link to get it to work. this is what the auction said. DVDs for sale London Doctor Who old 16mm film episodes (£20) Date posted: Thursday 23rd October Location: Scotland Reduced to £20. Someone must want them! Make me an offer... Some old Dr. Who 16mm reels. I've checked most of them, the quality varies from fair to good - I suspect they haven't always been stored perfectly, but they're still very watchable, with good sound. The episodes are: 'Four Hundred Dawns' 'Trap of Steel' 'Air Lock' 'The Exploding Planet' They form one complete story, from 1965, starring William Hartnell. Features some Dalek-like things that aren't actually Daleks, quite a silly story but you get what you pay for! Willing to post anywhere in Britain for a few extra quid. Will consider posting abroad.

It seemed very likely to be a hoax given the wording of the original posting. The posting called this Hartnell story "silly" and priced the supposed film prints cheaply because "you get what you pay for" and so forth. The posting tried to get across the idea was that the seller just had no idea how rare these films were. It all seemed very suspicious, but I'm glad the RT followed up on it anyway. I'm sure that Paul Vanezis is correct that this is a hoax.
